Health, Wellness, & Safety Committee
Health, Wellness, & Safety (HWS) Committee goals:
· Provide local PTA units with pertinent and up-to-date resources, information, and education
· Effectively advocate for issues related to health, wellness, safety, and equity for all students
· Collaborate and partner with like-minded individuals and organizations within Colorado to further enhance education and awareness of student health, wellness, safety, and equity issues
· Develop successful collaboration with other Colorado PTA programs and initiatives
· Encourage individual PTA units to consider appointing a Health, Wellness, and Safety Liaison to share information with the committee and promote relationships with HWS partners in their school and community
Health, Wellness, & Safety Committee Meetings
The HWS Committee meets ~6 times a year to discuss issues pertaining to the health, safety, and emotional well-being of Colorado Pre-K-12 students. We share advocacy opportunities, current resources, and tools that promote the mental and physical well-being of all students and a healthy, safe, nurturing, and inclusive school environment.
The HWS Committee invites PTA/PTSA members from all regions of Colorado to be guests at our virtual committee meetings. We’d love to hear about your health, wellness, and safety efforts and the challenges at your school. Please email the committee at HWS@copta.org for more information.
Sign up to receive emails with the resources and advocacy efforts shared at our committee meetings. Current PTA/PTSA membership is required to be added to the list. Check out the recommended resources from our past committee meetings. Follow the link and click on the meeting date in the left column to open the resources document for that date.
Health, Wellness, & Safety Liaison
Designating a HWS Liaison for your unit can help move your HWS efforts forward faster. The HWS Liaison’s role is to help connect PTA members with school, district, and community resources to support health, safety, and equity at schools and healthy lifestyles for students and families. The HWS Liaison position can be filled by any person who has a genuine interest in youth health, safety, and equity. Find out more about being a Health Wellness and Safety Liaison here.
