Parents for Healthy Kids Wellness Kit program

Colorado PTA is happy to announce the launch of our Parents for Healthy Kids Wellness Kit Program in partnership with Action for Healthy Kids. Over the next two school years, forty school parent groups will be selected to receive wellness project kits valued at up to $1,000 each to support their efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and increase academic performance.  Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis as long as supplies last. Learn about the program, eligibility requirements and how to apply. Contact Erin Kobler, Wellness Project Specialist, with questions!

The wellness project kits are designed to provide eligible K-12 schools with all the equipment and resources they need to implement a nutrition or physical activity project. Awarded schools will select one of the following kits:
► Host a tasting event for up to 500 students with kitchen equipment and serving supplies provided in the Taste Test & Nutrition Promotion Kit.
► Support a cooking class, club or family event with the cooking tools and accessories provided in the Healthy Cooking Kit.
► Enhance your school’s indoor or outdoor recess options with the play equipment provided on the Active Recess Cart.
► Incorporate the Healthy Games, Celebrations & Rewards Kit into your student celebrations to provide a healthy and fun alternative to traditional classroom parties.
► Bring more movement to the school day with the games and play equipment included in the Classroom Physical Activity Kit.

Join the Healthy School Movement

Schools across Colorado are forming health and wellness teams and focusing on creating healthy schools.  One of the simple ways to begin is to have your PTA Unit designate a Healthy Lifestyles Chair.  With a Healthy Lifestyles Chair, your school is better able to connect with other health, wellness, and safety leaders, receive training’s, lead initiatives and access resources and funding opportunities to support health and safety initiatives at your school.

Healthy School Initiatives

Each school has a unique culture and therefore needs a unique design to create a culture of school health, wellness, and safety.  Health, wellness, and safety will look different in each school community.  Areas of focus for Healthy Lifestyles Chairs may include school gardens, healthy snack programs, a focus on non-food rewards and healthy fundraising events, enhanced school play areas, increased access to opportunities for play, physical education and movement in the classroom, supporting healthy school nutrition programs, and safety education programs, creating a family food bank, staff wellness programs and family wellness education and programs.

Health, Wellness, & Safety Committee Goals
  • Effectively advocate for legislative issues related to health, wellness, and safety
  • Encourage each PTA to appoint a Healthy Lifestyle Chair within their respective school
  • Collaborate and partner with likeminded organizations/agencies within Colorado to further enhance education and awareness of health, wellness, and safety issues
  • Develop successful and mutually beneficial collaboration with Colorado PTA members
  • To provide local PTA units with resources and information

Every child in the United States should be well-nourished, physically active, healthy and ready to learn. Sadly, they’re not. One in three kids in this country is either overweight or obese. But they don’t have to be. Schools are a big part of the solution and you can be too. It’s going to take a nation of moms, dads and other caring individuals – people just like you – to raise their hands and lend their voices to the fight against childhood obesity so every kid can be healthy and ready to learn. Working together, we can give kids the keys to health and academic success, one school at a time. So take the Every Kid Healthy Pledge and ask your friends and family to do the same.      Visit Action for Healthy Kids now to take the...
